Devotional: OfferingUp What Weighs Us Down
In Christ, you are already enough. When we think about Lent, we often jump straight to the idea of giving something up, usually something we like. But what
if Lent is actually an invitation to lay down the things that quietly make us unhappy? The things that drain our peace, steal our joy, or make us feel less like the person God created us to be.
Instead of fasting from chocolate or caffeine, imagine fasting from:
- A thought that keeps running you in circles
- A habit that leaves you feeling empty
- A fear that keeps you from trusting
- A bitterness that’s overstayed its welcome
- A pressure you were never meant to carry
Lent becomes less about losing something, and more about making room.
Room for rest, room for clarity, room for the gentle presence of Jesus.
Jesus doesn’t ask us to hide our heaviness.
He asks us to hand it over.
And when we offer those things to Him, we begin to notice something: our hearts get a little lighter. We breathe a little deeper. We hear God a little more clearly.
That’s the closeness Lent is meant to invite.
Prayer
Jesus, this Lent I offer You the things that weigh me down.
Take my fear, my frustration, my heaviness, everything that steals my peace.
Fill the empty spaces with Your presence, Your joy, and Your rest.
Draw me nearer to You as I let go. Amen
