Devotional: In This Season
Isaiah 40:3 “Prepare the way for the Lord; make straight
in the desert a highway for our God.”
The holiday season arrives with a familiar mix of emotions.
For some, it brings warmth, anticipation, and cherished traditions. For others, it stirs memories, grief, or the quiet ache of things that have changed. Many of us hold both at the same time. The beauty of our faith is that God does not ask us to choose one feeling over another, God meets us in the whole of our humanity.
In scripture, preparing the way is not about sweeping our emotions aside or creating a perfect path. It’s about clearing just enough space in our hearts to notice where God is already moving. Preparation looks like honesty. It looks like pausing long enough to breathe. It looks like naming what we’re carrying without judgment, joy, gratitude, exhaustion, loneliness, hope, all of it. God travels through every terrain of our lives, even the rough and uneven places.
As we enter this season, may we give ourselves permission to arrive just as we are. May we trust that God is present in the light moments and the heavy ones.
And may the act of preparing our hearts become less about striving and more about allowing, allowing peace to find us, allowing hope to grow slowly, allowing love to take root again.
As you move into the rest of this newsletter, may you see how our church is intentionally creating spaces of connection, grounding, and gentle belonging for this season ahead.
